Tomorrow | Pastor Greg | 4/30/20
James 4:13–15 13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
Tomorrow is a mystery, therefore we must all walk by faith and not by sight. As much as we would like to think that we know for sure what will happen tomorrow, the current Covid-19 pandemic has reminded us that things change by the day and that we are not in control. We are not in a position to go to this or that city because most of us are not even leaving our homes as we shelter in place.
So we are to join James when he says “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” We should always be aware that God is present in our lives. We shouldn’t merely go to Him when we are in a crisis. We should walk with Him daily by following His will no matter where we find ourselves in life. Some of you may be wondering, ‘How do we know His will?’ I am glad that you asked. We are to keep in step with the Spirit. This means that we daily live for the glory of God and not the approval of people. How do I know? It’s in the book.
Romans 12:2 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
God’s will and plan for each one of us is good and we have to trust his timing when it comes to how he reveals this plan to us. He is faithful and He can be trusted. We don’t know what the future holds but we know who holds the future. This reminds me of one of my favorite hymns that I learned as a child and still sing today…
Because He Lives! This age old song gives us hope in the midst of the unknown…
Because He lives,
I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives,
All fear is gone.
Because I Know He holds the future.
Life is Worth Living, Just because He Lives.
Tomorrow is most certainly a mystery, but God knows all things and he can be trusted with our every tomorrow. He is the great “I AM” and nothing is too difficult for Him. So may we walk by faith and not by sight as we cling to the King in everything. The King has a name…and His name is…JESUS!
